But looking at this <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2010\/10\/10\/science\/10google.html?partner=rss&amp;emc=rss\" target=\"_blank\">NY Times article about\u00a0 Google cars that drive themselves<\/a>, it appears that the future is here.<\/p>\n<p>The article talks about a car project at Google, and Google&#8217;s experiments on real roads:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>The car is a project of <a title=\"More information about Google Inc\" href=\"http:\/\/topics.nytimes.com\/top\/news\/business\/companies\/google_inc\/index.html?inline=nyt-org\">Google<\/a>,  which has been working in secret but in plain view on vehicles that can  drive themselves, using artificial-intelligence software that can sense  anything near the car and mimic the decisions made by a human driver.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>So Google has some prototypes running on the road, but large scale commercialization of these cars is still &#8220;futuristic&#8221;:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Autonomous cars are years from mass production, but technologists who  have long dreamed of them believe that they can transform society as  profoundly as the Internet has.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Here is a video:<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"480\" height=\"373\" frameborder=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\" marginheight=\"0\" marginwidth=\"0\" id=\"nyt_video_player\" title=\"New York Times Video - Embed Player\" src=\"http:\/\/graphics8.nytimes.com\/bcvideo\/1.0\/iframe\/embed.html?videoId=1248069147736&#038;playerType=embed\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I had posted these &#8220;futuristic&#8221; thoughts a while ago.
