I had to install Apache, PHP and MySql and test them out first. That was fairly straightforward. Then I installed Drupal-6.2. The installation itself went through quickly — unlike on Yahoo where the register_globals directive prevented the installation — but there were some minor issues that needed to be sorted out.

My Drupal setup on XP is in a subdirectory under Apache’s htdocs. A URL like http://localhost/drupal-6.2/?q=admin was not getting resolved correctly. If I manually changed it to http://localhost/drupal-6.2/index.php/?q=admin, it would work correctly.

It was time to Google for a solution, and yet again, I found what I was looking for. The Drupal user forum had just the answer that I needed.

With these changes in my Apache httpd.conf, I have my Drupal working smoothly on my XP laptop.
