Review: Vornado Flippi V6 Personal Air Circulator Fan

Last updated on May 29, 2020

Working from home for almost 3 months now due to COVID-19-induced work-from-home policy in my company, I have been sitting at my desk in a bedroom, logging into work and attending numerous Webex meetings from my Windows Surface Pro 4 computer. The Surface Pro runs Windows 10, and works remarkably well as a work PC. But one thing that I kept noticing was that it tends to get hot when I have the video running during a conference call, while running all the other common applications. A couple of times, it shut down in the middle of a remote meeting as it got hot. With the weather getting warmer, I thought this might become a regular problem if I didn’t find a way to deal with it.

I started looking for a good, compact desktop fan. There are many out there, and after some research, I decided to try the Vornado Flippi V6 Personal Air Circulator Fan. I ordered it on Amazon and got it in a couple of days. I quickly disinfected the package and the contents to make them Coronavirus-safe, and eagerly set up the fan on my desk. It is compact enough to fit right behind my Surface Pro, and so that worked out well.

The Vornado Flippi V6 works off the mains, and so you don’t need to worry about batteries and charging them. It has two speed settings which makes it really very convenient — you can choose how much air flow you get. You can also change the tilt angle of the fan, and that makes it easy to direct air-flow exactly where you need it.

The other thing that really matters is how quiet your desktop fan is. At the lower speed, it is very quiet, and I barely notice it. At the higher speed, you can hear it. In my case, I used noise-cancelling headsets, and so when I attend meetings, others don’t hear any of the noise from my fan. I actually recorded my own voice with the fan running at the higher speed using my Platronics 5200 and the BlueParrot B550-XT headsets and when I played back the recording, I didn’t hear any of the noise from the fan.

I have had this fan running all the time on my desk for a few days now, and it has kept my Surface Pro cool, and I haven’t had any crashes since then.

At less than $20 on Amazon, the Vornado Flippi V6 is a great choice for your desk.
